LCCU In the Community

2021 Another Year to be Grateful!

Supporting the community where we and our members live is part of LCCU’s mission. In 2021, our team volunteered more than 1,200 hours as we continued our commitment to being involved in community events and organizations while staying true to our roots.

Teacher Grants

Supporting local teachers has been part of LCCU’s mission since its inception in 1939. In 2021, each school semester, we continued to offer up to five grants for up to $500.

Congratulations to:

  • Mary Jackson, Lewiston High School, Spanish Reading Materials – $500
  • Michele Brown, Timberline Elementary, Writing Supplies – $500
  • Tim Weber, Highland Elementary, Oculus Quest System – $500
  • Maura Sumpter, Highland Elementary, SEL Literature- $500
  • Katherine Stedman, Highland Elementary, Microscope – $500

All educators in grades pre-K-12 within our field of membership are eligible to apply for a grant each year. The application deadline for spring semester is February 20, 2022. More information about applying for a grant are available at

Children’s Miracle Network

On June 19, the LCCU Miracle Golf Tournament welcomed 120 golfers to Bryden Canyon Golf Course to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. We raised $20,000 for Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, received a $10,000 CO-OP Miracle matching donation, and presented a check to the hospital on September 24.

This year, our annual Ham-A-Palooza event raised more than $6,400 from the local community. With LCCU’s $5,000 match, the grand total equaled more than $11,400. This allowed us to purchase hams for the Idaho Food Bank, Lifeline Food Bank, Community Action Food Bank, Garfield County Food Bank, and Asotin County Food Bank plus provide an additional $1,000 donation to each.

Community Giving

Throughout the year, we had the pleasure of contributing to many wonderful organizations, and these are just a few:

$500 – Bald Mountain as part of our discount program for the community

$5,000 – Jackson’s Pay It Forward Foundation

$1,000 – Garfield County Food Bank

$1,000 – Seeley Theater Restoration Project

$1,000 – Pomeroy Senior Center

$1,000 – Pirate Booster Club

$1,000 – Denny Ashby Library

$2,500 – LC Crew for their annual Show Drive

$2,500 – Idaho Food Bank for their backpack program

$10,000 – Boys and Girls Club

We owe many thanks to all our members, event participants and sponsors for donating their time and money to help us raise funds for so many important community organizations. LCCU is proud to continue our tradition of being a true community partner!
