LCCU In the Community

2023 was a great year in the community!

Supporting the community where we and our members live is part of LCCU’s mission. In 2023, we had to be innovative with our involvement in community events and organizations while staying true to our roots.

Teacher Grants

Supporting local teachers has been part of LCCU’s mission since its inception in 1939. In 2023, each school semester, we continued to offer grants for up to $500. We were happy to award 11 teachers with LCCU Teacher Grants in 2023.

Children’s Miracle Network

On September 22, we presented Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital in Spokane with the proceeds from our annual Miracle Golf Tournament. LCCU raised $32,000 with the help from CO-OP’s Miracle Match! Not only did we present the LCCU check to the hospital that day, but our Vice President of Operations’s daughter also presented a check for $281 to the hospital. Her daughter had received cardiac care and surgery from the hospital in 2022 and wanted to give back so she offered to have her photo taken with golfers at the LCCU golf tournament – “Photos with Finn” – and donate all the proceeds to help other kids at the hospital! Way to go!

In 2023, our annual Ham-A-Palooza event raised enough money to purchase 800 hams for local food banks! This incredible level of funding from members, the community and LCCU allowed us to purchase hams for the Idaho Food Bank, Lifeline Food Bank, Community Action Food Bank, and Asotin County and the Garfield County Food Bank plus make an additional $2,000 donation to each.

We owe many thanks to all our members, event participants and sponsors for donating their time and money to help us raise funds for so many wonderful community organizations. LCCU is proud to have continued our tradition of being a true community partner!
